Artistic expression has always been a saving grace and a driving force in Susan’s life. She has worked with clay since the age of 5, benefiting from art classes and formal education, culminating in a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics from the University of Oregon in 1983.
Clay has been a longstanding favorite, for its versatility and never ending possibilities. Susan creates both functional and non-functional wares, often inspired by her many travels. Her decorative style is a reflection of nature and architectural motifs. Her love of painting and drawing often shows up in her
claywork. The clay becomes a canvas to tell a story! Photography has contributed an immediacy of creation, capturing moments in time. These photos get used directly and as inspiration and subject matter for a recent resurgence of exploration with acrylic paints on canvas.
Susan’s artwork can be found in various shops and galleries in the surrounding area and up and down the west coast of North America. She has resided on Vancouver Island since 2008 and has been an involved gift shop artist with Coast Collective since 2012. She is an active member in the South Vancouver Island Pottery Guild and a former member of Oregon Potters Association.
Susan is currently a member of 2 arts councils, one in Greater Victoria and one in the Cowichan Valley.
Exploration is key! Enjoy!
